Cowboys 44—Washington 17

The Cowboys went 4-0 in December and a perfect 8-0 on the road.  So what, some may say, well if you are the Cowboys and especially Tony Romo that was always a rallying point for Romo haters, he can’t win in December.  That issue is now dead. And as for the road record, since 1970 teams that have posted perfect road records have made it to the Super Bowl.  But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, what happened in Washington?

First, for those of you that did not read my earlier report when the Cowboys played Washington earlier in the season.  I will not use the R word which I consider as derogatory as the N word, Messican or wetback.  Ok let’s get to the game.  It was a record setting day for 2 Cowboys, DeMarco and Dez.  One broke Emmitt Smith’s single season rushing record and the other broke T.O.’s single season touchdown record with 16.  But records are only important if the team wins and win they did.  This win got them to 12 & 4 for the season.  Can you believe it? Again, I say no one could have predicted that for this season.  That is part of what makes this season special for all us Cowboy fans and we are going to the Playoffs!

Romo started the day with a 143.3 QB rating and he kept those numbers until he missed on a few passes and had one pick late in third quarter.  But that is not what really bothered many fans, the fact he, Dez and Murray were still playing in the fourth quarter that was bothersome.  It was the only point of contention this day but fortunately no key players were hurt on offense.  However on defense Hitchens and Melton will be evaluated today for injuries that we hope will not cause them to miss our first playoff game in 5 years.  A real standout on defense was Bruce Carter with 11 tackles, 2 pics and 2 pass deflections.  McClain who has been perhaps our best defensive player this season was out with a 102 fever, he should be ready on Sunday.  While no Cowboy defender has really drawn national attention, it matters not, as all the pieces together make it a real defense.  And if we have been surprised by the overall Cowboy season record, many have been floored by the success of the defense.  This number should tell the story this season the Cowboys offense has scored 209 points while the defense has only allowed 92 points.  No secret here to win you have to score more points than the opponent and they have that this year.  In fact, it seemed that much to the dismay of Washington they could not stop scoring on Sunday.  Everything seemed to work even a Bailey onside kick that Barry Church recovered and later Murray wiggled in for a touchdown.  And to put a cherry on top, Anthony Spencer scooped up a fumble for a closing TD.  Our first playoff game is now set for Sunday at 3:40 against Detroit. Please read my preview available on Friday.  We at Nuestra Voz wish you a safe and prosperous New Year.
