By Felix Alvarado

December 14, 2015

Nothing beats starting the New Year’s off right and so we can say “En Buena hora”, “Congratulations” State Representative Ramon Romero who has not drawn an opponent and is automatically returned to Austin where he has served the community well.  Well done!!!!.

Yes we are in election season and there is already a lot of noise coming from the right regarding immigration and national defense specifically the situation in the Middle East with ISIS.  In a time of crisis such as this where the enemy hides in the jungle, it is time for us to come together as Americans and face the enemy together.  I recall Vietnam where the military bore the brunt of disdain on both sides of the ocean.  Here we are turning against each other.  That is now how you win wars.  We do not all look alike nor do we practice the same religion but we are all Americans.  We cannot let the rhetoric of politics divide us.  Immigration is not a unique American problem.  Refugees from the Middle East where civil wars are doing what they have to do to survive they are fleeing.  We cannot turn our backs on them.  In a way we are responsible for many of the problems.  We need to man up and take responsibility for what we have helped create.

At a local level.  Today I paid a red light ticket.  Supposedly the red light cameras are there to keep up safe.  In reality it is just another way to feed the gluttony beast.  There is a way to get rid of the red light cameras.  Get rid of the politician.  That means – VOTE.  If you want to get rid of failing schools – get rid of the politician.  And it goes on and on.  When you vote you are telling a politician how to spend your money.  If you don’t vote, politicians spend money as they desire.  Because the only check a politician has is your vote.  Yes.  Voting season is upon us.  Hopefully, you will think of the future of your children and vote.  Another reason to vote is to pay homage to the thousands of Mexican railroad workers and miners that came to North Texas and paved the way for us.  They truly were voiceless.  Take an interest and check your family roots in North Texas.

Let your New Year’s resolution be one of involvement and accomplishment.  Let’s help our children make it through school and on to a profession.  It is more than a civic responsibility it is a family responsibility.
