Letter from the Editor

This is our first Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Nuevo.  We hope that there will be many more Merry Christmas’s and Happy New Year’s.  We look back at the first publication.  We had an idea that people wanted to know more than who got killed overnight as a result of violence, car wreck and so forth.  We felt like the Latino population wanted to know information that was more pertinent to their lives.  You told us we were right.  From Carlos Cuellar, Stories from the Barrio we learned that there was scant information about the first Mexicans that settled in Fort Worth.  You told us he was right.  You also are giving us some of the information that is missing. We are certain that you will find the information enriching and rewarding.  We will share this knowledge with you in the future.  In the meantime we want to hear from everybody. Acquiring the information is like putting together a picture puzzle you have to make sure the pieces fit. Our advertisers allow us to bring this information to you so please visit them and thank you for supporting us.

Election season is upon us so we want to encourage you to learn who is running for office and what they bring to the table.  In our website The Voting Results tab in the navigation bar tells you how registered voters with your last name voted.  It is encouraging to see a young Hispanic Sergio DeLeon as Justice of the Peace especially as involved as he is in being a positive role model to our children.  Bien hecho Sergio!!!  We also spoke to Juanita Salinas, she is a walking history book about entertainment in Fort Worth.  Many famous artists from Julio Iglesias, Pedro Infante, and Rocio Durcal have come to Guys and Dolls, Rose Marine Theater and the Rocket Club. Story goes that the line to see Pedro Infante was so long that he went to Marine Park with his Mariachis and performed there.  Our boxing and How We Worship stories continue to be big hits.  You can follow us on Facebook and you have access to the printed version of our publication along with all archived articles.  Domingo Garcia has scored a hit with the Chorizo and Menudo Breakfast.  Fort Worth has long needed a unifying force and the Chorizo and Menudo Breakfast appears to be exactly what the doctor ordered.  Well done, Domingo.

From the staff of Nuestra Voz de Tarrant County, Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Nuevo.
