Live Better for Your Community

We often don’t consider how the area we live in affects us. Potholes in the roads, trash

everywhere and unruly neighbors can really put a damper on how we live and feel about our

communities. To live well, our neighborhood roads, parks, schools, and clinics should be of good quality

and we should have a way to deal with crime, abandoned buildings, and stray animals. The local

authorities are here to help us, but they may not be aware of all our issues. If we want our area to be

better, we need to work together and let them know what we feel is important. Forming a

neighborhood group is the best way to let the authorities know our suggestions and needs.

Some areas already have groups working in the community. If your area already has a group,

attend their meetings and let people know your ideas. If not, talk with your neighbors and begin

meeting to discuss your issues. Most cities have neighborhood officers who can help you get organized.

Your group can then contact representatives from the police department, code compliance and the

parks department to get the services you need. You may also meet with officials from the school board,

county clinics or the local college.

If you would like information about forming a group or what groups are in your area, visit you

nearest library and ask for information. You may also want to visit your city’s website, or do a search for

neighborhood associations on the Internet. With a little time and effort we can all live in a nice place.
