Ground Hog Day

I have compared the last several seasons to the movie Ground Hog Day.  It is a light comedy starring Bill Murray.  Long story short Bill keeps reliving Ground Hog Day over and over again until he gets it right. Well here we are in week 15 of the new season and I can’t help but think about that movie again. However this time unlike the past three seasons, I expect that just like in the movie the Cowboys will be able to correct their mistakes and this time find a way to win.

Cowboys’ vs Philly Dos (2)

But what fuels my optimism, why do I think we have left the stigma of 3 seasons of 8/8 in the rear view mirror? Let’s start with the offense line, yes they had a terrible game against the Eagles on T-Day, but against Chicago they were awesome, which is more in line with what they showed us all season.  As for our running game, Demarco is usually hurt by this time in the season, this year he is on course for a 2000 yard season.  As for the receivers Dez is older, smarter and better, Whitten is still working on what will be a Hall of Fame career. The other tight end Escobar is also contributing and Little Beasley is also becoming a legitimate weapon and starting to play big.  As for Tony minus last Philly game and first game of season against the Niner’s he would have to be given serious consideration for this year’s NFL MVP.

Now for the defense, if you look at the last Eagles game, you have to think it is for the most part the same defense as last year. The defense that set a record for most points given up, most blown leads and was in a real discussion as the worst defense in NFL History.  Against the Eagles on Thanksgiving they gave up 464 yards, looked confused in coverage and seemed to have forgotten basic tackling techniques.  In addition they made Mark Sanchez look like Tom Brady.  A week later they did much better making key stops, takeaways and showed a lot of hustle and appeared to have mastered tackling 101.  Still they did let Chicago back into the game and most Cowboy fans did not relax till Scandrick intercepted the ball with a little over a minute left in the game.  But I believe they are better than last year and if they can manage to get in some sacks and hurries against Mark Sanchez we can win with this defense.  However to quote an old saying “The best defense is a good offense.”  The offense has to control the game and keep the defense off the field.  Hey, Seattle did it, they only gave up 137 yards and 18 minutes in time of possession, and we beat Seattle.  Ok I can hear you saying “Yea but.”  Believe it, in today’s NFL All teams are beatable even this Chip Kelly coached team and their quick set offense which had its wheels come off just last Sunday much like what happened to Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

I expect a win, hope you do too!
