This win might have even made the legendary stoic Coach Landry relax and smile today. The Cowboys won on offense, special teams and defense. It was very fitting that the dominant offense line this year on more than one occasion took to lining up in victory formation by using the old shift, started by the Landry winning teams of his era. The Landry teams made it to 20 playoff games or more, 5 super bowls with 2 wins.
Romo marched the team down the field on their first possession and didn’t stop till 5 touchdowns later. Weeden came in later in relief and added another touchdown as an exclamation point in this one sided victory between two 10 & 4 teams, making the Cowboys now 11 and 4 and Division Champs. The Colts plan was to stop Murray and they did manage to slow him some, thanks in part to his injury. However he still rushed for over 50 yards and had one TD. They also said they would double Dez. It did not work. He burned them for a touchdown. But he was not the only receiver that burned them today so did Beasley, Williams and tight end Whitten. In fact Tony reminded me of our LULAC Christmas program which had Pancho Claus giving out Christmas stockings to area children. The children stood in line to get their gifts and Cowboy receivers all waited their turn to get their touchdown pass. And in the end they were all happy as were the long suffering loyal Cowboy fans.
The Defense had their best game of the year and came close to pitching a shutout and in fact I was extremely impressed that they worked hard to try to secure it. This is more important given the fact that all the sports predictors and fans had them pegged as possibly the worst defense ever. Even I as a lifelong Cowboy fan, have to admit that I was among the naysayers. I was wrong and have never been happier to admit it. So to them I say, we all stand corrected and thank you for proving us wrong. To you and the rest of the team thank you for the best Christmas present we could have gotten this season. And to all Cowboy Fandom I say Feliz Navidad (Merry Christmas)! However I know we are not done yet. Please read my wrap-up and preview next Friday.
Editor's Note
Correction on my last report, I wrote Cowboys last year in Playoffs was 2007, it was actually 2009
