Texas Women’s University LULAC Council 4205

LULAC Council 4205 was founded in 2010.  Today, our campus boasts a 20 percent Latino population and continues to grow along with TWU’s LULAC.  TWU’s LULAC is excited to share its recent accomplishments:

We had a speaker on Immigration law, and presented the documentary on Mexican civil rights titled “A Class Apart.

We presented the movie “Cesar Chavez.” October 15.

We partnered with the University of Texas at San Antonio in hosting the 2015 LEAD (Latino Education Advocacy Days) summit.  TWU’s LULAC was honored to assist in disseminating this nationwide forum dedicated to discussing current Latino education issues.

We just held our annual Latina Empowerment event which is held in April.

In celebration of National LULAC week during the week of February 17th, we had fundraisers featuring elotes en vaso, flan, and churros.

Currently, we are in the planning stages of adding another annual event to be held during Hispanic heritage month which begins September 15.  Also, the officers at LULAC 4205 at TWU have recently voted to add two more officer positions beginning in fall 2015.  LULAC is a strong organization and it continues to grow!

TWU LULAC membership is open to both undergraduate and graduate students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.   TWU’s LULAC Council #4205 proudly partnered with UTSA in the broadcast of the 2015 Global LEAD Summit, whose goal is to encourage discussion on critical issues in Latino education worldwide. The Summit took place on March 26 and its purpose was to promote dialogue and create bridges between Latino Education in Latin American and the US.  This global summit included more than 1,500 town hall viewing sites from across the country and the world via simultaneous live cast.  In addition, representatives from several ministries of education were in attendance at UTSA main campus (the broadcasting site).

Coming next month:  Coverage of our Latina Empowerment event.
